This week in hate highlights hate crimes and harassment around the country since the election of Donald Trump. The Southern Poverty Law Center and other groups are keeping detailed counts of harassment and abuse, amid concerns about a rise in hate crimes after the election. Here are some recent incidents, which we are publishing on a weekly basis to draw attention to the issue.

• A woman has been arrested on hate crime charges after allegedly slashing the face of a black transgender man on a Manhattan subway on Dec. 25. She also allegedly told the man she did not want to sit next to a black person.

• On Dec. 30, a man in Highlands, Tex., discovered that his car had been burned and his home vandalized with racial slurs. Authorities are investigating the incident as a possible bias crime.

• Two menorahs in Brooklyn playgrounds were vandalized last week.

• Residents of Esperance, N.Y., discovered swastikas painted on homes and other buildings on New Year’s Day. State police are investigating the vandalism.

• Police in Hyannis, Mass., on Monday investigated anti-Semitic graffiti found in a cemetery as a possible hate crime.
