ROCKVILLE, MD (WUSA9) – The Rockville City Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit is investigating a hate crime.
It happened around 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the 600 block of Azalea Drive.
A 30-year-old woman said she had hung a large “Black Lives Matter” banner from the front of her condominium. The condo association asked her to remove the banner, which she did on Friday, Jan. 6, police said.
The woman said that sometime between the evening of Jan. 6 and the morning of Jan. 7, unknown subject(s) threw eggs at her vehicle, wrapped the tree in front of the condo in toilet paper and left a note on the windshield of her car. The note included references and symbols of anti-Semitic hatred.
“Walking down the street and not knowing who hates you for whatever reason makes me very anxious and the anxiety is very tiring,” said Sonya Shpilyuk.
“The note said we are giving you this gold star and there was a picture of the yellow star that the Jews were forced to wear to identify them for murder in the Second World War. It was so personal. It felt like it was meant for you, here you are, you are identified,” said the Montgomery County teacher.
Rockville Police are investigating this as a hate crime.
